Boggo Road Busway - Queensland

Boggo_Road_Busway_1_IAThe recently completed Boggo Road Busway is an elevated $226 million roadway that provides priority public transport access from the Princess Alexandra Hospital to the Eleanor Schonell Bridge at Dutton Park. This project provided a number of challenges for RMD Kwikform Australia to tackle.

The project consisted of 12 headstocks, 40.00m long, 2.50m wide and 1.90m high with a radiussed ends, approximately 7.00m high with a precast plank deck and parapet.

Headstocks at piers 7,8,9,10 and 11 were tackled with a standard Rapidshor solution based on an 1800x1500mm grid, providing 1.00m clearance outside the sideform bracing with an additional 4.00m of deck each end for post tensioning. Two of these headstocks encroached on exclusion zones and had to be cantilevered, for which RMD Kwikform Australia designed three sets of radiussed end forms with a bevel at the bottom, which then attached to the side forms.

At Pier 6 the challenge was to keep traffic moving below the construction area. To achieve this Megashor towers were used to support 600 UB structural beams with Rapishor, Superslim Soldiers and LVL. For Pier 5 the headstock had falls in both directions, RMD Kwikform designed and supplied special lateral bracing, steel packers and rubber matting. To support the inherent loads Megashor towers were used with doubled up Megashor beams and special lateral angle bracing. With stage one now complete, work is due to begin on stage two shortly. Equipment from RMD Kwikform was supplied on a part hire part sale arrangement.
